Adding or refreshing your Instagram connections

Connect a new Instagram account to Juicer or refresh an expired connection. Covers the 60-day token cycle and automatic refresh.

Written by Mario T.

This article covers how to connect a new Instagram account to Juicer and how to refresh an existing connection that's expired or stopped working.

⚠️ Important: After refreshing or adding an Instagram connection, new posts will not appear in your feed immediately. They'll show up at the next scheduled re-sync—every 24 hours on the Free plan, every 60 minutes or less on paid plans.

To display posts from a specific Instagram account in Juicer, Instagram requires that you authorize that account. You can do this for as many accounts as you like within Juicer. Adding or refreshing connections is done on your Connected Social Accounts page.

How often do I need to refresh my connection?

Instagram access tokens expire approximately every 60 days—this is a requirement from Meta (Instagram and Facebook's parent company), not something specific to Juicer.

However, Juicer automatically refreshes your Instagram connection before it expires, so in most cases you won't need to do anything at all. If the automatic refresh fails—for example, because you changed your Instagram password or revoked permissions—we'll email you a reminder 5 days before expiration, giving you time to refresh it manually using the steps below.

To add a new connection

  1. Go to instagram.com and log out of all your Instagram accounts. ❗️This is an essential step.

  2. Return to https://www.juicer.io/social-accounts and click the red plus icon.

  3. You will be asked to enter the login details for an Instagram account. Enter the credentials for the account you plan to display in Juicer.

⚠️ Note: If the page refreshes and you are not prompted to enter login details, visit instagram.com and make sure you are logged out of all accounts, then try again. This is to prevent accidental reconnection of the wrong Instagram account.

  4. The connection will be established. You can now add this Instagram account to the Social Media Sources area of your Juicer dashboard. Your successful connections appear in the area shown below:

You can follow the above process for as many Instagram accounts as you plan to display in your feed(s).

To refresh an Instagram connection

If you receive an email or in-app notification that your Instagram connection has expired, you can refresh it from your Connected Social Accounts page.

⚠️ Important: Before you start, go to instagram.com and log out of all Instagram accounts. This prevents Juicer from refreshing the connection to the wrong Instagram account.

  1. Log in to Juicer and open that page. Expired Instagram connections appear in red.

  2. Click the refresh icon (🔄) next to the expired connection. You'll be prompted to log in with the correct Instagram account.

  3. If the connection still shows as expired, make sure you're logged into the correct Instagram account at instagram.com, then try refreshing again.

  4. If it still doesn't work, follow the steps in "To add a new connection" above.

⚠️ Remember: When you click the refresh 🔄 icon, Juicer refreshes the connection for whatever Instagram account your browser is already logged into. Make sure your browser is logged into the Instagram account whose connection has expired.

After refreshing or adding a connection

Once you've successfully refreshed or added an Instagram connection, your feed will not be fixed immediately. Your feed enters a queue for a resync that can take from a few hours up to a day. If you don't see the posts updated within 24 hours, please contact us for assistance.

If you're still having trouble connecting your Instagram account, contact us and we'll help you sort it out.
