How to create an Instagram Business account

This is a required step for setting up an Instagram hashtag source in Juicer.

Written by Mario T.

Instagram and its parent company Meta require an Instagram Business account before you can create an Instagram hashtag source in Juicer. For background, read how to add an Instagram hashtag source.

If you don't have an Instagram Business account, follow the steps below to create one. The desktop method is generally more reliable than the mobile method.

Prerequisites

This article assumes you already have:

  1. A personal Facebook account. If not, create one at facebook.com.

  2. A Facebook business Page that you can connect to an Instagram account. If you need to create a business Page, start here.

  3. A regular, non-business Instagram account. If not, create one at instagram.com.

The Facebook business Page and Instagram account can be anything — they don't need to be for any particular business or even a real business.

Two approaches

⚠️ Instagram may update the location of these options periodically. If you find discrepancies between these instructions and what you see in the app, please let us know.

Creating an Instagram for Business account — desktop method

  1. Log into your Facebook account at facebook.com.

  2. On the left-side menu, click Pages.

  3. You'll see a list of Facebook business Pages you manage. Select the Page you want to connect to an Instagram account.

  4. On the selected Page, click Settings in the left-side menu.

  5. In the left-hand menu, click Instagram.

  6. On the right, log into the Instagram account you want to switch to a Business account.

  7. Once linked, you should see the option Switch to Business Account (still within the Instagram tab from step 5). Select it.

  8. Your Instagram Business account is now set up. You can link it to Juicer following the hashtag source instructions.

Creating an Instagram for Business account — mobile app method

  1. In the Instagram mobile app, log into your regular, non-business Instagram account.

  2. Tap the ≡ menu icon in the upper-right corner.

  3. In Settings, find Account type and tools.

  4. Select Switch to professional account.

  5. Click Next.

  6. Choose the applicable industry.

  7. Select Business.

  8. You can turn Instagram promotional emails off.

  9. You can skip providing Instagram with your contact info.

  10. You can link your Instagram to your Facebook account.

  11. Your account is now an Instagram for Business account. Connect it to a Facebook business Page by selecting SettingsAccountLinked Accounts. If you don't have a Facebook business Page, you can create one from the Instagram app with a single tap, or do these last steps on a desktop computer.

  12. Once your Instagram Business account is linked to a Facebook Page, connect it to Juicer using the Instagram sources instructions.

If you hit a step that's worded differently than what you see, or the switch doesn't complete, send us the Instagram username and a screenshot of the screen you're stuck on through contact us.
